Spotlight: Amber Benskin

Part 1 of the Spotlight series, which features our amazing volunteers, sponsors, and supporters.

Meet Amber.

Amber Benskin sees hope in people working together to help dogs. Her love of dogs, her faith, and her family inspire her to volunteer to make a positive change.

Motivated by the fluffy endearing puppies on Facebook, Amber started fostering four years ago with a local rescue organization.

Sometimes all the seemingly unsolvable problems in the world seem overwhelming, but she takes it a day at a time saying, “I can’t fix this big problem, but I can fix this one thing”.

She is now excited to be part of GPPR and her role has expanded to include a little bit of everything: transport from owner surrenders to fosters and from fosters to veterinary services, intake coordination paperwork, and planning and organizing fundraising events, including designing GPPR merchandise.

One of her favorite things about these experiences is all the cool people that she has met, many are now friends. It has also helped in her own self-development, by becoming a better communicator to coordinate with future GPPR families.

Her personal support staff includes her husband, toddler son, and her Shepherd/Rottweiler.

Volunteering is something the family can do together, and as an educator, she believes in the importance of teaching this behavior to her son.

As an added bonus, they spend more time outdoors exploring parks and trails, or just climbing trees. Having a family dog also helps her foster dogs adjust to their new environment and prepares them for success in their new forever homes.

The hope Amber sees in people working together to help dogs doesn’t end there. One of her other favorite things is hearing how those dogs helped their new people, too.

Thank you, Amber, for your dedication to GPPR and inspiring others to make the world a little better every day.
